English PEN in association with the Asia Literary Review has just announced a terrific opportunity for translators and writers in East
and South-East Asia - a new translation project and award, PEN Presents East and South-East Asia.
They're looking for literary translators with authors whose
work, in any genre, they propose to translate.
Submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges and the final
six will be featured at the 2017 London Book Fair and in the Asia Literary
Review, with a winner chosen by a panel of judges led by Deborah Smith, the
Man Booker International Prize-winning translator of Han Kang’s The Vegetarian,
and publisher of Titled Axis Press. Since submissions will be considered for
inclusion in the the Asia Literary Review they should be about 2000 words.
The hope is that finalists will be able to attend and
participate in the events in London, where all six will receive a PEN award.
The deadline for receipt of submissions is 5 December 2016.
Full details and the application form are on the English PEN
website here.
